Almost half way? New Years Update

Is it really almost the halfway point?  Goodness,  it's like once you get married the time literally FLIES by before you know it!  I feel like it was yesterday that I was preparing for my co-worker to be gone a week over the first week of May and now it is June the 1st?!  May was a lot of fun, we got out and did quite a bit int he month of May.... but this post isn't about how much fun we had in May, it's about an update on the resolutions I wanted to accomplish.

  1.  Get back on track with my weight:  The never ending saga for every woman, right?  (at least most of us).  I will be the first to admit that it is VERY easy to eat healthy for a few days and then all of a sudden out of nowhere I make a bad decision with one meal and feel like I erased all my healthy eating for that week.  This past month started off great, I was averaging 5 work outs a week and then the third week of May came and my motivation went to 0.  I haven't been getting up and going to the gym in the mornings, I have kept the alarm on to try, but only about once or twice a week do I get up and go and the times I did get up I ended up going running in the neighborhood or doing exercises while watching RHNJ.  I have improved on eating though, which was my saving grace this month.  I tend to order salads when we go out or grilled chicken,  I did give in twice and order mac-n-cheese this past month.
  2. Start Saving More:  We didn't do terrible.  We managed to put a couple hundred away into savings.  We put some into a "cash" fund that we put money in for projects around the house we want to complete. This past weekend we had our ventilation fan in the attic break, two of the three brackets that hold it in place had completely broke off and the other two were cracked causing the fan to wobble creating a "omg, it sounds like a plane is taking off in our attic" sound every time it turned on.  Since we had to replace that, there went $85 out of the "cash" fund that we had been saving.... stupid ventilation fan, doesn't that fan know that I would rather put that money towards a new door, shelving, or stain for the deck.
  3. Maintain Our Home:  I've got it under control, well, inside at least.  We haven't done a great deal to our yard and I wish we would have done more to it in the past year but let's be honest here, I do not have the green thumb that my mother did and I resent paying for shrubs that don't live.  In the past month alone my grandmother has given us some "seedling" trees that came from her yard (three to be exact).  On top of the seedling trees she has also brought us three potted plants, a shrub cutting tool, and some fertilizer.... I think she is trying to tell me something?  To make matter worse the last week of May was a real scorcher and our grass is starting to turn brown and even completely dying in areas.  Really grass?  Com'n already, we water you, love you, and even talk to you.... what more do you want?  This month we plan to get on it already we're going to plant things, clean up the side of our yard that only the neighborhood kids ever see, and at least think about what we should do with the backyard.
  4. Having Patience:  I'm doing significantly better with patience lately, especially at work.  I think I have said it before but having a good attitude is a good portion of having patience so I try to start every day in a good mood and see the brighter side of things.  Don't get me wrong there are still things that I don't have patience for yet; my phone, people who expect you to answer them before they finish asking you a question but then take a day and a half to answer yours, and when grocery stores are out of stock of items not even on special.  My problems with patience are small to the rest of the world, merely little complaints more than anything, but I am working on it.
  5. Being a better wife:  I'm thankful that we live together as easy as we do daily.  We rarely fight, and when/if we do it is usually just over stupid stuff like leaving food out that Slade got or why I can never shut the shower door so it don't drip in the air vent.... and let's be honest, those aren't fights.  T and I had lived together three years when we got married and I wouldn't have it any other way, having no crazy adjustment when we got married probably made our first year of marriage MUCH easier than people who never lived together.  I couldn't imagine learning the quirks of one another right after the honeymoon and having to adjust and still keep a smile on your face.

What do I want to do in the next six months differently than I have in the first?

  1. Start planning meals better.  Planning healthy dinners, making a list, going to the store.... because after we buy it we are good to go with sticking with the plan.
  2. Sticking to my plans.  I can talk myself out of so many things, rather it be a morning work out or not putting money into savings.
  3. Finishing projects.  How many months has the wallpaper been half off the walls in the MB?  How long have we wanted to knock out the upper cabinets over the stove top?
  4. Taking deep breaths and not sweating the small stuff.
  5. Taking more time out of the day away from the TV to spend with T or other friends.

Here's to the rest of the year!
