Bump in the Night

About two years ago when we purchased our king bed.  When we laid on the bed in the store it seemed HUGE!  Upon delivery and adding two dogs sleeping at your feet... we didn't gain much sleeping real estate.  We love the bed (locally from the Original Mattress Factory) but what we didn't love was that we had no headboard.  Like most things going up in size also meant going up in price.  King headboards are expensive!!  So we purchased a solid wood door from Lowes and added some molding to the top and painted it black.  (Sorry no "in the making pictures" long before I thought of a blog).  The headboard works great, serves its purpose, but now since we moved and re-hung it seems to have warped or maybe our wall isn't (which wouldn't surprise me).

So each time one of T or I's pillows hits the headboard in the middle of the night there is a "thud" sound.  Not only does it wake the other up, it also wakes the dogs up.  We had been meaning to purchase some bumpers on a Lowes trip but continuously forgot until the next time we heard a "thud."

Over the weekend we finally remembered and purchased these:

About $2.60ish

You can see here that because of the hardware we used to hang the headboard that the top is slightly further from the wall and the bottom rests on the wall.

We came home to put them on, we figured one on the two bottom corners and two in the middle.  We placed them flush with the edge of the headboard thinking that it would be the lowest point where the headboard was resting on the wall.  We tested it out.... and we heard a "thud." We tried adding the smaller size in different places vs. the larger size.  Nada.

We sighed a gave up for the night.

Does anyone know any better options so we won't hear any "thuds" in the night?  The headboard really doesn't appear to be warped.
