Our Weekend

Sorry about yesterday - I was having an off day.  I haven't felt so sluggish and tired in a good long while.  I seriously think I could've taken a short nap on my desk at work but I didn't.... I was good.  Enough about Monday (it's over with).

Mission Accomplished.  Relaxing weekend in the hole.

We came home Friday afternoon after the (long) work week, vacuumed the house while having a beverage, grilled hot wings on the grill, and enjoyed a night with some friends.

Saturday morning we slept in (thank goodness), walked the dogs around the neighborhood, and officially switched over to iced coffee for the summer.  Meme arrived a little after 10:30am right on schedule - I was glad that she was able to get here without getting lost, I feared that we would get the phone call "I'm at this shopping center and I have no idea what wrong turn I made..." but she didn't even call!!

After venturing to the mall, dealership, furniture stores, we finally made it to dinner at Rockwell's American Grill.  This is a new Rocky Top Hospitality Restaurant with a Southern Diner Atmosphere.  I splurged with this meal - I got their trio combo that consisted of their Southwest salad on special, New Englas Clam Chowda, and the Vintage Van Gogh Gouda grilled cheese sandwich.  It was like a little three course piece of heaven in your mouth.  The portions were huge,  T ate half my salad and I still took food home for the next day.  T had the meatloaf, potatoes, and smoked mac-n-cheese.  The mac-n-cheese is AMAZING there.... T and I decided it was probably our favorite mac-n-cheese to date.  I was tempted to order it - but I only had a couple bites instead of gorging myself in calories from the massive portion.

I should mention that Meme has never stayed the night at our house before (which is why it was such a big deal that she was coming AND staying the night).  We considered making her breakfast the next morning, but decided that with her being so picky we would just go over to Dorry's Downtown (one of our favorites) that is walkable (but we drove since Meme was with us).  We usually go there about once a month on the weekends to get breakfast - they remember us and even which table we like to sit at each time (I like that).  She ordered exactly what she wanted and was happy (she is old school and likes things cooked certain ways).
***We're excited about Dorry's since they just added a covered patio and are supposed to be getting their ABC license so walking over and having lunch and a beer is something we cannot wait to do this summer.

Meme left around lunchtime to go ahead and get on the road since the weather was starting to look ugly and she didn't want to leave Raleigh in traffic and rain.  After she left T and I put our big boy/girl panties on and straightened up/re organized our closets.  Sometimes I wonder why we fold T's clothes because they seem to unfold themselves before they get into the drawers/shelves.  As of Sunday afternoon I think his closet and drawers look the best they ever have looked, let's see how long they stay like that now!  We also finally lined the furniture with liners and moved stuff to our new furniture in the DR. (Yay something checked off our list).  With that being done we are one step closer to getting the upper kitchen cabinets gone in the kitchen!

Look - empty!
Right side - Silver serve ware
Top drawer - linens
Bottom drawer - pieces that are only used on occasions
Left side - recipes
Smaller cabinet
After removing the platters we have plenty of extra room here
Next - organize this hot mess and make room for a microwave
Meme brought the boys a bag of treats - Slade almost knocked her down when she walked in the door with the bag.
Our colorful new addition, ceramic berry trays  $5 each at World Market.
So that was our weekend.  Did anyone else try a new restaurant?  Have family come visit?

This coming weekend we have no plans and I'm excited about that!!  I have new recipes I want to try out and we need to pay our yard some attention.

Yellow

As of Wednesday at 11:00am our furniture arrived!!
The picture T sent me after delivery - I was so excited I almost peed when I saw the picture!
You might remember that back in February we ventured to Revival Antiques and fell in love with two pieces of furniture and decided to have Revival refinish them.  We were told it would be a six week time frame, which was fine with us, and then they were finished early on April 2nd.  Then we were out of town or working for the next three weekends so we decided that we would just have it delivered rather than risk scratching/damaging our precious furniture.  We had to wait another week and half until the 25th of April after we decided to have it delivered.
Old Sofa Table - gone.  Ignore the mess on the DR table.
Sofa table's new location - aka. T's side table
As of today T and I both think we like the table over there.  I think we can pull out some baskets to go not he lower shelf to store those x-box controllers and maybe get a lacquered box to go on the top to store smaller things that he tends to lay on the side table like his glasses, pens, computer parts, and his watch.  The lamp isn't new, I've had it since I moved into my very first apartment (tear) but we did purchase a new shade from where else? Target.  The lamp had been living in the third bedroom and a few weeks ago that room was looking pretty decently put together - and then I went and stole the lamp, lol.

Enough with the talking (typing?) I'm a firm believer that a picture is worth a thousand words, so without further ado...
BAM!  I realize that the majority of people think I am crazy for having furniture painted yellow - but I LOVE it and that's what counts.
I like that the piece is slightly higher than the chair rail to break up the lines in the room.
Adorable chest that matches - it was like it was meant to go in this room!
We had the top's refinished natural and we are SO glad we did - do you see that wood grain?!
We were even happy to see that the original hardware was able to be cleaned up and looking new again!
Since the top is natural wood, stained... we think we are going to get some paper to trace the top and purchase two pieces of glass to protect the top before we put anything on there.  I'm about to google the closest glass place to find out their turn around time this morning.  I also have to figure out if my sunburst mirror that has been waiting to be painted will look better over the sideboard or elsewhere.

We are so happy with the way they turned out!  We highly recommend Joe and his crew over at Revival Antiques.  If you are in the Triangle area you have to go check out the showroom and walk around the warehouse.  They also have some great accessories in the showroom too - I purchased some little ceramic birds that sit on my window sill in front of our kitchen sink.  I would recommend picking a cooler morning before I gets too hot to walk through the warehouse since it is open air.

So do y'all love? hate? Think we are crazy?
