Christmas Crafting

Yes, I know it is September and the thought of Christmas is month away for some people but if Michael's can pull Christmas out... so can I!!!  Over the weekend while T's parents were in town his mom and I decided we were going to make some trees for our mantel.

A few weeks ago I shared that I was on the hunt for some items to use for projects, I didn't have any trouble finding the tree forms, but the felt was a whole different story.  Luckily T's mom found every color I needed!
The tree forms
I started by wrapping the bottoms with about 1" thick strip
I cut a million of these guys, I did it free handed with no stencil (you don't seen most of the shape, only the point)
After doing this guy two layers around - I realized I was going to need more felt
Progress
I was able to get this far on Saturday night
So close
Slade was bored
Done
So what did I use?  It's not a overly expensive project and you don't have to have a lot of materials on hand either!

  • 5 different colors of felt.  (I think I used 6 sheets almost of the bottom three colors and 3 of the top two colors)
  • 6 cardboard tree forms
  • hot glue gun and glue
  • scissors

I thought I wold share what T's mom made for her mantel too.  She took a styrofoam tree form and stuck bulbs of different sizes into the form and then finished it with some filler found in the Christmas wreath isle at Michaels.
Placing the bulbs
All the bulbs
Finished Product
She didn't have time to finish her second tree with filler, but they both turned out great
First Christmas project done!
So has anyone else started a project for the Holidays yet?  I think I need to start on mine early so I have time to find everything I need for the projects.  I would think I do have an advantage because I don't use the typical traditional Christmas colors lately... but because it is every day crafting stuff I guess teachers buy it up.... and I end up with no advantage, lol.

Have a great Tuesday!
