Our Weekend

I would love to tell y'all that we went somewhere beautiful again, but we didn't.  Actually I worked the home show this weekend so it wasn't a real "weekend" in my opinion.

Friday we had one goal in mind: To finish sanding and paint the deck furniture.  When my dad came up to bring our babies back last Monday he volunteered (no, I hadn't even mentioned it) to sand our furniture down so we could paint it.  We purchased the furniture last August-ish when our gorgeous set from World Market started warping so bad that glasses would fall over on the table and the stain started coming off on our deck (thankfully they had issues with the set and gave us all our money back).  Instead of investing in high dollar deck furniture again, we purchased some wood furniture from Craigslist for $80.  We received two arm chairs, one bench, one coffee table and each seat came with cushions.  I'll be honest, I didn't expect to keep it for the summer, but since everything is SO expensive we decided we'd drop the time to sand and paint and keep for at least another season.  The set originally was stained a deep red/brown stain which in it's prime I'm sure was gorgeous but give it years in the weather and it was crying for an update.  Sadly I forgot to take "good" before pictures before my dad started sanding so I am left to share these photos where Slade is showing you what he does best.

Here you can see just HOW faded the cushions are... The top is the "back" of what it should look like and the bottom is what the other side looks like (faded white)
You can see the bottom of the photo the wear and tear...
About two hours of sanding (with "checking on the weather" breaks) my dad had sanding about 90% of everything with a hand sander.  Thank goodness, he did most of the dirty work because when I walked out there my eyes immediately turned red and itched but I couldn't stop sneezing.  I did the remaining of the sanding Friday afternoon.
This is what each piece looked like prior to us painting.

Up close - you'll notice we didn't get every nook and cranny

We had great coverage with just one coat

Bam.  Painted.

This was the pain - the top slats were nearly impossible to get the sides of completely.  We managed to get it done pretty well and unless you are looking for the spots you won't notice them.
Saturday T decided to be productive and remove some of the "brush" from the tree that was cut down...five months ago.  All the wood is out of the middle of the yard!!  He even did a little demo to the stump that we were too cheap to pay to have ground out (well, that and they would've had to take up our fence)  When I got off work from the home-show I finished painting the bench (we ran out of sunlight Friday night).

Action shot (I'm sure he'll kill me for this, lol)

I tried this - and it was pathetic!

This was how it all looked after dry time.  I'm convinced I need to get some fabric spray paint and get those cushion ASAP now.
We did "Low Country Broil" Kebabs.  Found from Pinterest on Cook Au Vin's website.

Sunday we didn't accomplish a whole lot.  I worked the home-show again.  T cleaned up the kitchen from the night before when we had our friends over.  After sitting outside int he afternoon because it was GORGEOUS here... T craved something...
Sushi!  And thanks for restaurant.com it was a cheap date :)
Anybody else enjoy the weather?  Give furniture new life?  Eat amazing sushi?
