Back in 2006ish I fell in love with a magazine that was all about the finer things in the design world. I was a sophomore in college and just moving into my first apartment. I couldn't afford one thing that I saw in the magazine and I think that inspired me to begin DIY and working with what what I had (or could afford). I wish I could find pictures of my first place... heck, I wish I could find my old Domino magazines.
The special edition of the magazine (which I'm hoping is back for good) was titled "Quick Fixes" and it literally shows you hundreds of ways to update any room. Over half the issue is pictures and explanations of the idea they are suggesting, each of which lists what they used, where you can find it, and price. It's so neat to flip through the pages and see SO MANY ideas... I know T was just waiting for me to jump up and want to start a new project (but I refrained and went to bed).

I have to tell you I didn't think I was going to find Domino. I went to Barnes and Noble on my lunch break only to hear "we don't have any and we won't be carrying that magazine" from an angry employee working there. Okay - I decided that I should go to Target while I was out and while that Target didn't have it, I read on their Facebook page that others had found the magazine at Target's. So, I called the location near our house and the guy (whom I'm sure thought I was crazy asking him to check the magazine section) let me know they did have it on the shelves and that it was next to Traditional Home. I called T and asked him to pick it up on his lunch break... and he did LOVE.
There is an opening page that reads "Home should make you happy" and I completely agree. Your home should be a complete reflection of you. I think that statement may be one of my new favorites... and it also gives me some motivation to get moving on getting our house more "together."
Below is an example of what the layout looks like... if you are a person that loves the long articles this issue might just drive you crazy since these are short paragraphs.
 |
| 5 Flaw fixing eye catching paint fixes... I love the dark wall in the top left corner. |
 |
| Some amazing textiles - I think one was even affordable! |
 |
| Bathroom styles - there were a few things that I might take and add to our bathroom on these pages. |
 |
| One adorable feature, on the corner of each page there is a heart and on the first true page of the issue it says "Old school - "favoriting" (I think they are trying to compete with "pinning" :) |
 |
| When you bend the page over it reads "i heart this" Aww. |
There were so many great ideas packed in the 125 pages of the magazine. There is a source book in the back listing major retailers they depend on and details as well as color trends, outdoor living, gardening, etc. Now...Keep in mind that the magazine used to be targeted to household with incomes of $103,000 average so when you do see the prices of the objects in the photos don't be alarmed. It's nice to see the finer things in life and you know what many things can be DIY'ed or substituted for a similar object. While there was so "subscription card" in this issue I am hoping that the magazine comes back into print. It is kinda like getting a whole issue of "pins" from pinterest (at least for me).
I highly recommend checking it out. The cover price says $10.99, but when T purchased it at Target it only rang up $8. Maybe this is a special rate offered by Target?
Has anyone else fell back in love with Domino? Hate it? Want to spend your entire paycheck on some wallpaper or piece of furniture
