...What the neighbors might think

I decided that after pinning about 50 things to do with wine bottle corks that I also should consider reusing the bottles too?  Now, saving corks is easy, you toss them in a container and go about your life.  Bottles are not all that easy... they may or may not have recently taken over a good portion of our kitchen counter top.  A few days ago as T and I made our coffee he finally asked "So.. what are you planning on doing with all these bottles?"  I'm sure he imagines that we might be going on the show hoaders sometime in the future, or who knows, the producers might just skip me and send me to AA if I end up getting that many bottles (jk. Don't worry dad).

So what can you do with a wine bottle?  (I'm so glad you asked)

1. Wine Bottle Torch:  This being the easiest (in my opinion) wine bottle recycling option.  This could be a one bottle piece of line your backyard fence.  This probably has a special place in my heart because it was one of the first things I pinned on Pinterest.

2.  Wine Bottle Chandelier:  I think I would like to take this idea and have wine bottle pendent lights.  It would be fun if I had the space for one.... but due to our current layout I think we would just hit our heads.

3. Wine Bottle Shelving:  This would be fun to mimic for a wall shelf too.  It doesn't look extremely complicated.  I think the larger (double) bottles or several of the skinnier desert bottles would look cool for shelving!

4. Water bottles or glasses:  If we would've had a local wedding I would have jumped at the idea to use wine bottles as water pitchers.  I've seen several blogs where people have etched "water" or their initials, wedding date, or last name on the side of the bottle.  All very neat ideas.   I'm not on the wagon with the glasses - while it is a cool idea - I don't think executing a "set" (and by set I mean more than two) successfully.  I watched a few DIY videos or people attempting and after reading it seems like you REALLY have to know what you are doing.... kudos to anyone who can (please let me know)

5. Wine bottle edging:  Okay - This one is by FAR my favorite.  It made me all warm and fuzzy inside, it was love at first sight, and it was quickly pinned.  I can't believe I had not thought of it since I haven't been a fan of our "rock" edging around the islands.

I'm sure that our neighbors might think we are alcoholics.... but not as bad if we were to do this...

Ridiculous!  The pin links no where, sorry.
I'm still working on T, he isn't exactly on board yet.  There is plenty of time to get him on board too.  I mean, we would need a hefty bottle collection to even start to do this project.  Each wine bottle is what, approximately 4" in diameter, right?  So that means 3 bottles per foot of edging.  For 20 feet of edging we would need 60 bottles!!!  Another thing we need to consider is maintenance.... if we hit a bottle with a weed-eater would it break?  (I'm worried the answer is going to be yes)  If so, we will probably be limited to the back yard since there is ZERO grass back there (maybe one day, but I don't want to think about getting all that mulch up - it will be a "HEY, who wants to come rake up mulch party" for sure).
