I posted my New Years Resolutions out for the world to view, here (eek!) and I did it for the sole purpose thinking that if I posted that I might actually stick with it (for once). My one month progress can be viewed here. So let me get myself in check. I should have remembered to post this about a week ago, but better late than never.
1. Get back on track with my weight.
Throughout the month of February I managed to do some form of a workout 16 days out of the month. That didn't meet my goal of 20 days, but I am not letting that get me down, instead I will just keep on trucking and that will be my goal for March. Given that I was traveling more than I usually do, I ate some junk, some junk I am not proud of, but at the time I was starving so it was convenient. I lost 1 lb, does that even count? I'm not sure it does, lol. I don't consider February a success. We only tried one new recipe (Crock Pot Chicken Tacos) which I even forgot to take a picture of :(
It's confession time - I wish I could say that I do well with change. I wish I could tell you that I look forward to the gym or working out each day. I know it is a fact of life and that it is a great thing I can do for myself. I just can't get excited about traveling to the gym from work, being there with 2039847 other people, driving home, and then being faced with cooking dinner later, having zero daylight time, and having no energy to do anything that I want to do. It's like the time I spent going, being, and coming from the gym ate "my" time. This past month I started walking with T some days and I can truly say that I enjoyed it, we had a chance to catch up with each other while we got some physical activity in at the same time. This might be my problem, in January I was doing a lot of cardio and running and this month most of my workouts were walking (aka. less calorie burn). So while I do still plan to incorporate walks with my hubby (and four legged friends) I do want to try to focus on burning more calories and then the walks be more leisurely (as an added bonus). I want to try to get at least (3) 15-20 minute toning workouts in each week too.
*Last night we raked the yard (that was full of gum balls and leaves) until it was dark, which was a little over an hour. According to the calorie counter I burned about 325 calories, not too bad.
2. Start saving more.
The amount that we spent in gas last month almost makes me sick to my stomach. I remember when I first got my license and gas was right around $1 a gallon... maybe $1.25 max. Now at $3.73 a gallon it definitely hurts to wallet more. We could've easily put extra money in savings had we not had to drive so much. This month we are working on spending less in gas and going out to dinner. The one positive on saving that we accomplished was we put 100% of our tax return into savings. We didn't even think "what we could" do with the money, directly into the savings account. March I want to put away $300 into savings, if we can do more than that it would be great, but I think if we eat out less it shouldn't be a problem. (It's so easy to go out and enjoy ourselves - but we HAVE to learn that isn't good for our waist or wallet)
3. Maintaining the house.
I am continuing to make strides becoming a future housewife.... don't let me fool you, the only time I will be a housewife is if I ever get to retire. I just want to pat ourselves on the back, since this resolution isn't just me, T is helping too. Our overall house has been cleaner this past month than it was a few months ago. Doing a little bit each day and then maintaining everyday chores like the kitchen, vacuuming, picking up our junk, and not letting the mail lay around REALLY helps. I recommend anyone try just having a 10 minute straightening up time when you get home from work, or after dinner. It makes the world of difference. I would love to get on a cleaning schedule, but for right now, I'm doing MUCH better than I was a year ago today!
4. Having patience.
I firmly believe that having patience and being thankful go hand and hand. If you try to keep up a positive attitude patience naturally comes along with the smile. Don't get me wrong, I still get angry when some things happen... I mean... how does a cork ball that rests on three points on the mantle randomly start rolling off the mantle bouncing on the fireplace and onto the floor? (Deep Breath - it was salvaged) Another test of patience is on the road, but I have learned that there is so much more to life than the person in front of you. I think the best thing one can do to help with patience is just to slow down and enjoy life. There is not one person that has the perfect life - there are going to be stresses, problems, frustrations, etc and you can't let that get caught up and ruin "you" as a person.
5. Be a better wife.
I can't say I was better this month, but I can say that T was a great husband. This is the first time in our relationship that one of us has lost a loved one, and I have to say that he stepped up to the plate and hit a home run. He knows me well enough to know when I need him and know when he just hang back.
I think that the little things in a relationship that develop and grow over time are the things that make your relationship special.
Considering everything we faced in the month of February, I think I held on pretty good. Being gone 9 days away from home/routine probably threw off progress more than anything.
