T and I have been together for almost 5 years. When I first met him I don't think he did too much laundry (if any). After about two-three weeks of us dating I was introduced to his closet, a 3' x 3' "man" closet in the frat house, and it contained a 4' pile of clothes in the bottom. It surprisingly didn't scare me - I had seen worse from girls. I decided that I would be sweet and wash his clothes for him (here we go)... after he explained to me that it was near impossible to do laundry in the house because people would take your stuff out to put theirs in or throw everything of yours in the dryer I understood why he never got any of it done. We bagged it all up in large black trash bags and took over to my apartment. I think it was one Saturday morning I had to have done at least 5-6 loads of laundry (not including the hockey stuff that I left in his car until he was ready to wash, lol). I folded everything and had it in baskets waiting for him. Was this a mistake? I know he liked it and didn't "expect" it.... but definitely hinted :)
Fast forward some...We moved in together. Throughout the years he has always hated the "L" word. Call me a modern girl? The opposite of old fashioned? I don't know what you would call it? Since we both work full time jobs I expect the housework to be divided up.... now if T miraculously makes six figures and I can stay at home, then he wouldn't have to lift a finger. Until that day happens we both do laundry. Over the years T has learned what colors to wash together, what to let air dry, and even not to wash towels with clothes. He has done so well in training :) (<3 you babe).
Now - the problem. I will be 100% honest here. We are both great about keeping up on washing clothes, it's the folding/putting away we both have grown to dislike. I will even go as far to say we will do two to three loads of laundry before we tackle a good "folding party" as we call it. Remember that one of my New Years Resolutions was to maintain our house? This is one of the things I was talking about working on.
Folding. T and I usually fold stuff together and it doesn't take much time at all. What drives me crazy is that he folds things very large and loose so they either fall unfolded when you go to put things away or they are too large for the stacks in drawers/shelves. He says that I am just too picky? (maybe) but if they don't fit then I have to refold things (not a good time). When we fold sheets or towels I DREAM of the closets from Martha Stewart and T just dreams of putting them away. This may be a little bit OCD, but I like it when I go to get a towel from the closet and two more don't fall out on me? Or I can see where/what sheets are in the closet?
I guess this is one of the things you adjust to when you marry/share a home with your husband. So do I just let it go and have messy closets/dressers? Do I just do it all myself so it is organized? I don't want to get into the habit of doing more around the house because then he will expect it. I know my grandparents were this way and when you get older you can't keep it up like you can when you are young. I know my aunt does almost everything around the house - I call her the energizer bunny, she just never stops. But like T and I, they both work full time jobs. Am I wrong for thinking its fair to do half and half? So when you see a photo like this - it's after the folding party.
