When we purchased the house the kitchen and master bathroom were both wallpapered in the same wallpaper. I immediately didn't like it when we originally looked at the house, from the pictures we had viewed online it appeared to just be painted (much easier to fix). T decided that we should live with it for a while and decide if it grows on me. . . . it isn't growing. . . it didn't even sprout. The previous owner owned a company that renovated hotels and I am willing to bet that this wallpaper was left over from one of his jobs. It's like this tan/orange neutral color but is textured and SUPER thick, totally like something you would find in a hotel. UGH. I finally talked about it enough that T agreed that we could take it down.
This was the small area where I started
This is the next area to tackle
I was very thankful that the insides of the closets were not wallpapered too
So I took a razor and cut around all the edges, whomever put it up sealed it with some type of clear caulk-like sealant. After I just found a loose edge and pulled, it was so easy... too easy. Then when I saw behind the wallpaper - there was more OLD (1970's style) original wallpaper. I grunted a little bit at the a**(*&% that put wallpaper over wallpaper, although, I'm sure whomever put it up could have cared less.
There is still some glue, but that is the least of our worries.
Who in their right mind would pick this? I don't care if it was the 70's!?
I pulled the bottom up near our counter to show my grandmother tonight that it would peel up. Then she decided to "show" me how it was done and ripped it up... yay...she ripped my wall.
Meme, my grandmother, is concerned about our air quality in our house so she brought us plants.
....and more plants.
Just to let y'all know. I decided to wait and purchase a steamer before I go any further with the wallpaper. Instead.... I FINALLY started painting to guest bedroom. I will share that once I get the wall behind the bed painted. I painted 3 of the 4 walls tonight so I have to get T to help me move the bed so I can paint the other wall. All I'm going to say is I'm nervous.
