My green thumb (that I wish I had)

See the picture above?  These were two Croton plants my grandmother recommended that I get..... solely because they were "impossible to kill."  Obviously not impossible.  Please see link to see what these plants looked like prior to my possession.  These looked great last summer/autumn when I purchased to go in front of our fireplace, but by Christmas leaves started falling off.  Let me first say that the fireplace was never used.  (I was always too cheap to waste the gas).  I tried to blame it on our dogs but that was a lost battle when we were watching tv and three leaves fell off in one thirty minute show.

I have been able to keep VERY few things alive over the years.  Let me list the few that I have...

A "bamboo" plant, a small Philodendrons in its original pot from Wal-Mart about two years ago (that will be spray painted soon), and a snake plant - that its leaves want to fall over.

All the above are very slow growing (good for a houseplant duh!).  I wish our house had more light to allow me to have more plants.  Unfortunately I have to be careful what I leave out on the tables, sometimes it strikes my dogs interest and the plant will be torn up on the floor.  (Side note - Dyson's are GREAT at picking up dirt).

I'm wondering if there are any houseplants out there that need little light?  I would love to have more living plants inside.
