Freshening up with Yellow

It's 2011 and I am embracing change!  I realized I can't "party like it was 1999" anymore.... and thats about how long it has been (give or take 3-4 years) that I have been obsessed with shades of lime green and bold reds.  I'm trying to freshen up and bring more light into our new home.  We have MANY tall trees which gives our home shade (that we are very thankful for when it comes to cooling costs).  Bringing more lighter shades of gray, yellow, aqua, and white into our home is one of the best ways (I have found) to brighten the place up!

Here is the problem.  I suppose stores/designers/owners etc caught onto my whole yellow scheme and jacked the price up on all things yellow.  Please see below...

West Elm's Andalusia Rug  in 8x10 $479 (not to mention $25 surplus shipping charge)

After reading Ikea Hacker I believe I can buy a more affordable white rug and dye it yellow.

Are you kidding me?  I never knew they were an art gallery.
Plan on reproducing something like this when I feel the motivation to pull the paints out (where ever they are in a box)

Also from Anthropologie Sethunya Sheet Set $ 168 for King

I'm on the look out for affordable printed sheets for the bedrooms.  Hoping to get lucky at Homegoods one of these days.

Word on the street is my mother in law has me two that she found at a thrift store waiting...

Today I pulled out a can of spray paint to update a few things.  I also managed to find my paints/supplies and I hope that by the end of next week I will have some new art for the house.  Check back for an update on how I kept my motivation....
